REALTORS® Community Foundation presents 59 cheques to local community organizations.
Edmonton, March 11, 2016: More than $308,000 was presented this morning to deserving charities from Edmonton and surrounding areas. From guide dogs to counselling programs, shelter assistance and mental health awareness, 59 local grassroots community agencies benefited from monetary donations made by the REALTORS® Community Foundation’s ‘Big Give’. Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, the Foundation has been giving out similar grants since 1986, and has contributed over $4 million.
The REALTORS® Community Foundation supports projects involving, shelter, homelessness, hunger, crime prevention and special projects. This annual event funds a variety of charitable organizations that, without our support, would struggle to reach funding goals.
“This is our favourite day of the year,” said Jill Didow, Executive Director of the REALTORS® Community Foundation. “We are able to give back to smaller organizations who really rely on the grants from the Foundation, and from our generous REALTORS® who support it. I have had the privilege of seeing what these charities do and it is truly remarkable to see their funding put into action.”
The funds are raised through the year at a number of REALTOR® events such as the Santa’s Christmas Auction, annual Golf Tournaments or business meetings. Individual REALTORS® also donate a portion of their commission from each sale.

REALTORS® Community Foundation
The REALTORS® Community Foundation is the Foundation of the REALTORS® Association of Edmonton. It is a registered charity in the province of Alberta. For many years the Directors of the REALTORS® Association of Edmonton attempted to respond to requests for funding received from various charitable organizations. In 1986 it was determined that a Charitable Foundation should be created to deal with these requests, to engage in specific fund raising activities and to contribute to the local communities on behalf of REALTORS®.
Caring – Sharing – Investing in our community is what the REALTORS® Community Foundation of Edmonton and area is all about. On average the Foundation provides funding to over 30 charities annually and in 2011 the Foundation returned over $300,000 to 44 projects in Edmonton and area. Local REALTORS® have contributed over $3 million dollars since 1986. The REALTORS® Community Foundation built a fourth Habitat for Humanity Home in 2011. REALTORS® have also provided countless volunteer hours in the building of these homes. Too many people in our area are facing hard times, homelessness, or hunger and the REALTORS® Community Foundation is trying to help combat those issues and show the community that REALTORS® truly care about the communities in which they live, work and play.
